For free games, you could try Combat Arms or Battlefield Heroes. Vindictus is in the beta if you can get into it.
But hey, if you've got a couple bucks to spend, head down to the local gamestore and buy Arcanum. Its an old Fallout-esque RPG that's absolutely amazing.

Quake three arena is now available on quakelive.com as a free to play online pc game through your browser, greatest thing since sliced bread :D
